{wedding invitations} brittany + tj

Now that the new website has been up for over a week, I thought it was time to introduce one of our newest designs on the site, the Spanish Tiles. These invitations were specifically designed for a romantic Arizona wedding with a little bit of old-world Spanish flair. Now before you jump to any conclusions of your own, I should probably clarify who these invitations are for. Yes, her name is Brittany Spears, but it's not the pop-singing, dancing in a schoolgirl outfit down the halls, Britney Spears that you might assume. Same name, different spelling, different gal. {Note: being that aforementioned pop-sensation is also currently engaged...if she happened to need invitations, I would be more then happy to oblige; just in case anyone happens to have her number.}

But I digress...this particular Miss Spears was a wonderful lady to work with and I couldn't have been more thrilled to have been involved in her wedding invitations. Besides creating a custom tile pattern for her invitations, I was also able to try my hand at wax seals! As we were using an Envelopments folio to contain her invitations and corresponding pieces, we decided a twine wrap and wax seal would help to complete the look. I don't know about you, but I'm in love.
You can learn more about the Spanish Tiles invitation here on our website. Also, if you're interested in using Envelopment enclosures or wax seals in your own invitation suite, stop by our Embellishments page to learn more!

{typography tuesday}

These type forms are breathtaking. According to Casper Lam and YuJune Park: "The physical form of language is a record of collective memory. In this monotype typeface, the height of the letterforms is determined by how often a letter is used. This typeface maps the rhythmic ebb and flow of English. Each letter sits in a 6x6 inch square, allowing for any combination of letters to run seamlessly both vertically and horizontally."

and the award goes to...

I admit it, I am a complete glutton for the Academy Awards. I love the show, the celebrities, the musical numbers and of course, Billy Crystal; so there was absolutely no way I was going to miss last nights show. The Oscars have always been a huge part of my life, in fact, two of my Great Aunts used to work for the Academy and so when asked why I love this show oh so very much, I can easily answer that the Oscars are in my blood.

On a normal year (one where I am not filling orders for Fab.com and launching a new website) I make it a point to see as many nominated movies as possible. This occasionally means weekends filled with double-headers, but when faced with a deadline (especially one filled with popcorn and amazing flicks), I'm always game. Sadly this year, I was admittedly behind in my movie going. I was sad to not be able to support my argument for why "this movie should get that" and "that movie should get this" but I suppose this just means I have a few movie dates scheduled for the near future.

I did however pull out my collection of Academy Award Programs. Having relatives in 'the biz' has allowed me to collect some serious Oscar swag over the years (including a very 80's style jacket - think Michael Jackson's coat in the Thriller video, but black with a fully embroidered gold Oscar on the back. 'Wow' is right!). My favorite items are the programs though. I love to pour over the names of actors, directors and designers that have been nominated over the years, and the programs themselves are pretty amazing examples of design and typography of their time. Sadly it was rather late at night when I tried to photograph them, so the photos ended up being a little shoddy, but I had to share at least one. This is my oldest program, it's rather simple in design, but I absolutely love it. Such a great keepsake.

Did you watch the awards? And if so, which movies were you rooting for?

in need of a day off...

Between wedding invitations on the press, Fab.com and a dog with an upset tummy, I need a day off! Sadly, I don't see any free days to myself in the near future, but I am going to take a blog break for the day and plan on coming back tomorrow when I'm well rested and in the mood to share some fun new stuff. So for today, have a lovely Wednesday and we'll see you real soon!

PS: Today is the last day to check out our sale, Love(ly) Letters, on Fab.com. Click here to get your Fab invite if you haven't already!

a FAB Monday

It's rare when one looks forward to waking up bright and early on Monday morning, but on this particular Monday I couldn't be more excited to get out of bed! It's feels a little like Christmas morning...but maybe even a little better. Today, not only do I have the pleasure of introducing the newly launched Dahlia Press Website, but also today Dahlia Press is having a sale on Fab.com! It's almost too much excitement for one blog post to handle!

So, first thing first. The Fab.com sale is only on for 72 hours, so you must act fast. If you haven't signed up for Fab yet, you can by visiting this link. After you join you'll have access to all sorts of fun and amazing products at fantastic prices! Trust me, you're going to want to check it out. If you're a fan of the items on my Etsy shop you'll want to visit Fab to see the amazing prices. Just trust me. Sign up!

Secondly, once you're done perusing Fab.com, you'll want to take a trip over to dahliapress.com to check out the new website! It's been a long time coming (I've been working on it a little here and there for the past few months) but it's finally up and running and I couldn't be more in love.

What a way to start the week!

Happy Monday!!

a birthday and a wrap up

I know it's a little late in the day, but I wasn't going to let today go by without a very special announcement. Today is Miss Cate's Birthday! I know she's going to kill me for gushing over her in such a public way...but I have to let you all know just how much she means to me. Not only is she one of the most talented artist/designer/printers that I know, but she has one of the biggest, kindest hearts of anyone I've ever met. I know that my life would be lacking greatly if I didn't have her in it. It's been a complete honor and a privilege to know her let alone to have the opportunity to work with her, and I know Dahlia Press just wouldn't be the same without her. So, to a very special lady...Happy Birthday!!

Now that I'm done waxing poetically about C, it's time to get this weekend started! This week we had a lot of fun things come about, and next week is only going to get crazier. As of today, the currently Dahlia Press website is down! It's sad to see it go, but we couldn't be more excited about the new website that is coming your way! We will be here bright and early Monday morning to walk you through it.

In the meantime, make sure you check out our post on the upcoming Fab.com sale (seriously excited about that!) and check out our wedding invitation promotion! Have a great weekend!

FAB-ulous news!

I'm not going to blabber on as I want to get right to the point...Dahlia Press is going to be on Fab.com!!! If you haven't heard of Fab.com before, you absolutely must check it out. Fab is an online retailer that delivers amazing daily deals from exceptional artist and designers on things that you really want. The sales are only 3 days long and items have a tendency to go rather fast, so you need to be on the ball if you see something you like.

Fab features everything from furniture, household items, apparel and even stationery. I was approached by the Fab team a few weeks ago to see if I was interested in having a Fab sale and couldn't have said "yes" fast enough (okay in all honesty, I literally squealed when I read their email). I've been madly preparing for the sale (which will go live on Monday February 20th) but being that we now listed on their 'coming soon calendar', I figured I could give you an early heads up. I'll fill you in on more details later on in the week, but in the meantime, if you're not a Fab member, then I highly suggest you head over here to become one. It might just be your new favorite site!
P.S: The image above is just a sneak peek, there will be MANY more fun things in the sale, so you'll definitely want to check it out.

spreading the love to all...

{typography tuesday}

How great are these love themed installations? I'm especially into the piece by Pei-San Ng. I love his concept of "love on fire," it reminds me of this. So stunning and so unique.

Happy Valentines Day all!

{tutorial} wax seals

It's Monday!! I'd be lying if I said I wasn't completely excited to get this week going. The next two weeks are pretty exciting for Dahlia Press  - lots of announcements and lots of things to share! But, before we get too ahead of ourselves, we thought we'd start off the week with a tutorial!

This weekend I was knee deep in wax seals. To be honest, it was really my first experience sealing multiple items in one sitting (35 enclosures needed to be sealed), and so of course I picked up a few tricks along the way. Below is a little step-by-step tutorial of exactly how you can make your own wax seals!

First, we should mention the tools needed...
1. Envelope: You'll need an envelope, folio or piece of paper to receive the seal.
2. Wax Seals: I found my wax seals at letterseals.com. They have an extensive list of seals available in an variates of types and colors. I found the Scottish sealing wax to be rather easy to work with.
3. Seal Non-Stick: If there is any one particular item you MUST have, it would be this. It helps to prevent the seal from sticking to the wax. It's vital to the whole process!
4. Seal: There are hundreds of seals out there to use with wax, and many sites that allow you to create your own like this site.
5. Matches: You'll need a flame!
Not Pictured: Wax paper. I found this to be extremely helpful in keeping the wax off my table surface.

Now you have your tools and you're ready to wax! Follow the steps these simple steps...

...and if everything goes according to plan, your seal should look like this:

dreams and plans

Just when I thought I was too tired to blog - I ran across this lovely little quote and felt inspired. There's a lot going on these days. Seriously, A LOT. I'm not sure if I'm running on pure energy or just steam, but it's safe to say, my To Do list runneth over.

The good news; it's all great stuff. The bad news; you have to wait until next week for me to really dive into what's going on. I promise you, it will be absolutely worth it though (spoiler alert: it might have something to do with a new site, or a really great feature, or some awesome new invites, or maybe all of the above). Again, I promise, just hang in there a little longer.

In the meantime, I have to get back to work. It might be Wednesday, but it feels like my week has only just begun.

wax on, wax off

I'm fairly certain Mr. Miyagi wasn't referring to sealing wax when he uttered those famous "wax on, wax off" words; but he should have been. Letter sealing wax is where it is at! Yes, I know it's an old school method (and when I say old, I mean OLD...the art of sealing envelopes with wax goes all the way back to the 16th century), but it's seriously fun in a big way. This weekend I gave it a whirl with a few of my own custom stamps I've designed to accompany our wedding invitation suites. Excited about wax? Yep, you could say that!

P.S: If you'd like to chat about how we can incorporate wax seals into your wedding suite, feel free to get in touch with the studio directly.

{wedding invitations} beth & austin

Happy Friday! I can hardly believe it is the end of the week already. To wrap things up, I thought I'd share a set of wedding invitations I have recently printed for a lovely Seattle couple. Beth came to me after she was inspired by my Script Wedding Invitation on the Dahlia Press website. Wanting to keep the script a main feature, but simplify the remaining text, we played with a few options, and I couldn't be more jazzed with the final result. Very clean and simple, yet super romantic at the same time.
In other wedding related news...Dahlia Press is now an Envelopments dealer! What's Envelopments? It's a whole system of fun and beautifully crafted papers, enclosures, envelopes and card stocks. I've used Envelopements for a number of my brides who want to add something special to enhance their wedding suite. If you're interested in learning more about Envelopements and how we can include them in your wedding suite, please contact the studio directly.
