and the award goes to...

I admit it, I am a complete gluten for the Academy Awards. I love the show, the celebrities, the musical numbers and of course, Billy Crystal; so there was absolutely no way I was going to miss last nights show. The Oscars have always been a huge part of my life, in fact, two of my Great Aunts used to work for the Academy and so when asked why I love this show oh so very much, I can easily answer that the Oscars are in my blood.

On a normal year (one where I am not filling orders for Fab.com and launching a new website) I make it a point to see as many nominated movies as possible. This occasionally means weekends filled with double-headers, but when faced with a deadline (especially one filled with popcorn and amazing flicks), I'm always game. Sadly this year, I was admittedly behind in my movie going. I was sad to not be able to support my argument for why "this movie should get that" and "that movie should get this" but I suppose this just means I have a few movie dates scheduled for the near future.

I did however pull out my collection of Academy Award Programs. Having relatives in 'the biz' has allowed me to collect some serious Oscar swag over the years (including a very 80's style jacket - think Michael Jackson's coat in the Thriller video, but black with a fully embroidered gold Oscar on the back. 'Wow' is right!). My favorite items are the programs though. I love to pour over the names of actors, directors and designers that have been nominated over the years, and the programs themselves are pretty amazing examples of design and typography of their time. Sadly it was rather late at night when I tried to photograph them, so the photos ended up being a little shoddy, but I had to share at least one. This is my oldest program, it's rather simple in design, but I absolutely love it. Such a great keepsake.

Did you watch the awards? And if so, which movies were you rooting for?

in need of a day off...

Between wedding invitations on the press, Fab.com and a dog with an upset tummy, I need a day off! Sadly, I don't see any free days to myself in the near future, but I am going to take a blog break for the day and plan on coming back tomorrow when I'm well rested and in the mood to share some fun new stuff. So for today, have a lovely Wednesday and we'll see you real soon!

PS: Today is the last day to check out our sale, Love(ly) Letters, on Fab.com. Click here to get your Fab invite if you haven't already!

Stephanie and I love being able to call the Emerald City "home". With endless cafes, live music, and local farmers markets (and some great typography!), what is there not too love? Cheers to the wonderful wonderful northwest.

*And speaking of typography... make sure to stop by fab.com to take advantage of the sweet discounts on our love(ly) letters. Only two days left!

a FAB Monday

It's rare when one looks forward to waking up bright and early on Monday morning, but on this particular Monday I couldn't be more excited to get out of bed! It's feels a little like Christmas morning...but maybe even a little better. Today, not only do I have the pleasure of introducing the newly launched Dahlia Press Website, but also today Dahlia Press is having a sale on Fab.com! It's almost too much excitement for one blog post to handle!

So, first thing first. The Fab.com sale is only on for 72 hours, so you must act fast. If you haven't signed up for Fab yet, you can by visiting this link. After you join you'll have access to all sorts of fun and amazing products at fantastic prices! Trust me, you're going to want to check it out. If you're a fan of the items on my Etsy shop you'll want to visit Fab to see the amazing prices. Just trust me. Sign up!

Secondly, once you're done perusing Fab.com, you'll want to take a trip over to dahliapress.com to check out the new website! It's been a long time coming (I've been working on it a little here and there for the past few months) but it's finally up and running and I couldn't be more in love.

What a way to start the week!

Happy Monday!!

a birthday and a wrap up

I know it's a little late in the day, but I wasn't going to let today go by without a very special announcement. Today is Miss Cate's Birthday! I know she's going to kill me for gushing over her in such a public way...but I have to let you all know just how much she means to me. Not only is she one of the most talented artist/designer/printers that I know, but she has one of the biggest, kindest hearts of anyone I've ever met. I know that my life would be lacking greatly if I didn't have her in it. It's been a complete honor and a privilege to know her let alone to have the opportunity to work with her, and I know Dahlia Press just wouldn't be the same without her. So, to a very special lady...Happy Birthday!!

Now that I'm done waxing poetically about C, it's time to get this weekend started! This week we had a lot of fun things come about, and next week is only going to get crazier. As of today, the currently Dahlia Press website is down! It's sad to see it go, but we couldn't be more excited about the new website that is coming your way! We will be here bright and early Monday morning to walk you through it.

In the meantime, make sure you check out our post on the upcoming Fab.com sale (seriously excited about that!) and check out our wedding invitation promotion! Have a great weekend!

FAB-ulous news!

I'm not going to blabber on as I want to get right to the point...Dahlia Press is going to be on Fab.com!!! If you haven't heard of Fab.com before, you absolutely must check it out. Fab is an online retailer that delivers amazing daily deals from exceptional artist and designers on things that you really want. The sales are only 3 days long and items have a tendency to go rather fast, so you need to be on the ball if you see something you like.

Fab features everything from furniture, household items, apparel and even stationery. I was approached by the Fab team a few weeks ago to see if I was interested in having a Fab sale and couldn't have said "yes" fast enough (okay in all honesty, I literally squealed when I read their email). I've been madly preparing for the sale (which will go live on Monday February 20th) but being that we now listed on their 'coming soon calendar', I figured I could give you an early heads up. I'll fill you in on more details later on in the week, but in the meantime, if you're not a Fab member, then I highly suggest you head over here to become one. It might just be your new favorite site!
P.S: The image above is just a sneak peek, there will be MANY more fun things in the sale, so you'll definitely want to check it out.

spreading the love to all...

{typography tuesday}

How great are these love themed installations? I'm especially into the piece by Pei-San Ng. I love his concept of "love on fire," it reminds me of this. So stunning and so unique.

Happy Valentines Day all!
